For over ten years, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in the Lower Rhine region of Germany has provided an innovative, interdisciplinary and international education to young minds from around the world. We offer a total of 36 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in four multidisciplinary faculties: Technology and Bionics, Life Sciences, Society and Economics, and Communication and Environment. Our scientifically-oriented degree programmes combine an applied academic approach with a broad international scope, resulting in a high-quality education and teaching and research with significant real-world relevance. 75% of our degree programmes are taught in English. Over 7,300 students from 122 different countries are currently pursuing a degree in our uniquely international and intercultural learning community. International collaboration is a strength of ours, visible in our active network of more than 90 partner universities in 38 countries. We are connected to the broader world, but also deeply rooted in our own the Dutch-German EUREGIO region as well.

Market dynamics, competition and changing customer expectations are creating ever tougher demands for companies, not only in terms of product quality, but also labour rights and protections, and the environmental impact of operations. This trend is fuelling demand for skilled specialists able to navigate the complex rules, regulations and norms in these areas. At Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, our degree programmes combine a solid foundation in the natural sciences with applied specialist content and the study of applicable legal regulations, particularly in the areas of quality management, environmental protection, work safety and hygiene. Additional emphasis is placed on developing students’ managerial expertise and communication skills. This applies particularly to the degree programme Quality, Environment, Safety and Hygiene B.Sc. and its interdisciplinary curriculum which provides students with a solid background in the rules, requirements and legal specifications of various sectors.

PROFESSOR OF SAFETY, HEALTH PROTECTION, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION and QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Salary grade “W2” according to LBesG NRW, Reference: 03/F2/20

WHY WE NEED YOU

  • You will be taking control of teaching and research in the areas of safety, health and environmental protection and quality management in the Faculty of Life Sciences.
  • Beyond teaching in the aforementioned fields at both undergraduate and graduate levels (foundation and elective modules taught in either German or English), you will also contribute to applied joint research projects with industry. You will also be responsible for academic administrative tasks which contribute to the continued development of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

WHAT YOU OFFER US

  • PhD in hand in the natural sciences, engineering or agricultural sciences
  • Practical career experience with clear relevance to at least two of the titular fields of this professorship and, accordingly, you are well-versed in both integrated management systems as well as certification systems
  • At least five years of relevant experience in the applied use of research findings and methodologies; at least three of these years must have been outside of higher education
  • Excellent academic and research skills
  • Research expertise in the form of publications and project experience
  • Proficiency in English and German at or above the C1 level (CEFR) is required
  • And of course: creativity, enthusiasm, the ability to work well in a team and intercultural competence

General requirements for the appointment of new professors are derived from § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW). The following qualifications are therefore mandatory for all applicants to this position:

  • A PhD in hand from a research university in a relevant field
  • Excellent academic and research skills, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctoral dissertation
  • At least five years of relevant career experience in the applied use or development of research findings and methodology; at least three of these years must have been outside of higher education
