For over ten years, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in the Lower Rhine region of Germany has provided an innovative, interdisciplinary and international education to young minds from around the world. We offer a total of 36 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in four multidisciplinary faculties: Technology and Bionics, Life Sciences, Society and Economics, and Communication and Environment. The Faculty of Society and Economics distinguishes itself through its emphasis on practical relevance and the great importance it attaches to the interdisciplinary dynamics between research, entrepreneurship and regulatory frameworks in its degree programmes. PROFESSOR of Digital Transformation

Salary grade “W2” according to LBesG NRW, Reference: 08/F3/21


  • We are seeking an expert, in particular someone with a profound understanding of the technical aspects of the digitalisation process, to represent the field of Digital Transformation in teaching and research at the Faculty of Society and Economics
  • You will actively contribute to degree programme development by incorporating your knowledge of digitalisation and its effects
  • You enjoy teaching and conducting research in an interdisciplinary environment
  • You are also prepared to teach courses on the fundamentals of IT
  • You attach great value to familiarising students with the principles of ERP systems
  • Beyond teaching foundation modules and electives in German and English for undergraduates and postgraduates, you will also take an active role in applied research in collaboration with industry and public authorities as well as in the administration and continued development of our faculty and teaching


  • An academic degree in a field such as computer science, business informatics, economics, the social sciences and/or Science and Technology Studies
  • Excellent academic and research skills, demonstrated by a qualified doctorate
  • Work experience in the area of digital transformation or a different subsection of digitalisation
  • Know-how in the areas of AI, machine learning and data analytics
  • Research expertise, demonstrated by publications and project experience
  • Advanced proficiency in English and German (C1) is mandatory
  • And naturally: creativity, enthusiasm, the ability to work well in a team and intercultural skills

General requirements for the appointment of new professors are derived from § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW). The following qualifications are therefore mandatory for all applicants to this position:

  • A PhD in hand from a research university in a relevant field
  • Excellent academic and research skills, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctoral dissertation
  • At least five years of relevant career experience in the applied use or development of research findings and methodology; at least three of these years must have been outside of higher education
